Where to buy Canning Jars
Q: I'm looking for the quart size jars (preferably wide mouth). I only need a few and don't want to buy a whole case. Does anyone know of any stores that sell these jars?
A: Flea markets are a good place to look, because they have a lot of old things.
Gemel is the name of a special type of bottle. Two curves necked bottles are heated and are united to form one unit for two liquids, like oil and vinegar.
The GEMEL term is related to the word Gemini (twins). Gemini is a constellation of two stars that represent Castor and Pollux, the twins who, in Greek mythology and Roman were great fighters and patrons of horses and Shipwrecked.
A few recently found 6 1/4-inch-high GEMEL sandstone ball is two pitchers tied together with a handle and decorated with a large blue decorated bird incised.Gemel jugs were made by potters in Connecticut and New York in the 18th and 19th centuries.
It is suggested that because of its small size and because a pitcher is marked "M" and one "B", it held in Madeira and brandy sauces. Crocker Farm Inc. of Maryland auctioning this rare piece of $ 24,725.
